The Founder

Dr. Hiwot Desta is a medical doctor with extensive experience working in teaching hospitals and educational institutions such as colleges and training centres. She obtained her medical doctorate from Hawassa University School of Medicine with Distinction and the second-highest GPA. Her performance was demonstrably exceptional, both in her curricular and extracurricular activities. She also holds medical informatics and health administration credentials from Toronto Metropolitan University. Furthermore, she holds various certifications in Canadian medical culture, pedagogy, digital fluency, health unit coordination, pain assessment and management, and more. 

Dr. Hiwot Desta completed the Medical Council of Canada(MCC) evaluating and qualifying examinations, namely, the Medical Council of Canada Evaluation Examination(MCCEE), Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination 1(MCCQE1) and National Assessment Collaboration Objective Structured Clinical Examination( NAC OSCE). 

Before her higher education, Dr. Hiwot was known for excelling in her studies since childhood. She received several awards in Elementary, Middle, and High schools for exceptional academic achievements. She also received prizes from the regional government of Ethiopia to commemorate her success in national exams administered in Grades 10 and 12. 

Dr. Hiwot solidified her knowledge and experience by working in various healthcare industries such as hospitals, family medicine offices, and travel clinics. She also took part in several Continuing Medical Education programs to keep up-to-date with the current advancements in medicine. In addition, she pursued further education in Digital Fluency at Humber College which has been instrumental in developing her technological acumen. Most importantly, Dr. Hiwot worked as a Physician Medical question Writer and Editor which further sharpened her skills in academia and inspired her to found Dr. Hiwot Academy. 

Dr. Hiwot is an avid reader which contributed to her all-rounded knowledge in the fields of medicine, psychology, anthropology, sociology, women's Issues, and religious studies. 

As she is an educator at heart, Dr. Hiwot volunteers as a mentor in Ethiopian Evangelical Church in  Toronto. Furthermore, she hosts educational discussions on social media about health and a variety of sociocultural issues.

 Holding myriads of certifications in pedagogy, healthcare, and various other disciplines,  Dr. Hiwot possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to help learners achieve their academic and personal development goals using her unique approach.
